Pure New Wool

Pure New Wool - The Basis Of Woolen Slippers

The basis for natural boiled wool and wool felt is always pure new wool, shorn from living sheep. A sheep is shorn twice a year. The first clip is always of higher quality. Wool shorn from 6 months old lambs is called Lambswool. It is rather short but very fine and soft. Most of the wool is imported from either Australia, where 15% of the world's entire sheep population reside, New Zealand or South America because there are too few sheep left in the EU. One sheep can yield up to five kilograms of coherent fleece. Once the sheep are shorn, the wool is washed at a steady temperature to prevent felting. Dried and oiled, the fleece is ready to be spun.

Boiled Wool

Boiled Wool – Felted Knitwear

Boiled wool has been in use since the ninth century A.D. Knitwear is washed, worked, squeezed and compressed in a warm and slightly alkaline or acidic bath until it felts. Afterwards, the original structure of the woven fabric is hardly recognizable or not recognizable at all, maintaining all the fantastic properties of both the original wool and knit fabric. The knitwear is also reduced by onethird its original size. The warmth of the bath leads to opening of the wools dandruff layer and interlocking of the tiny wool fibers. The wool's natural curl and structure ensure high air inclusion, improving natural heat retention, flexibility and air permeability, which will keep your feet comfortably warm and dry in all conditions.

Sheepskin Leather

Sheepskin Leather – Furry Warmth

Sheepskin leather, contrary to regular leather, is tanned with the fleece left on. Resistant to static electricity, sheepskin is a phenomenal insulator that also draws moisture away from your body. It can absorb moisture up to 35% its weight. Sheepskin has been part of the traditional garments of Eastern European and Asian nomads for centuries and it is still being used todery for various kinds of clothing, accessories and footwear. Sheepskin may sometimes come with natural markings and imperfections. These may include bites, scratches or scars of a different origin. Those marks do not impact the leather's durability in a negative way and are considered proof of natural quality. Sheepskin slippers are very popular, even in summer, so make sure to get a pair right away.
