Material Properties of Genuine Leather Sandals

As a shoes' material, genuine leather has the unique capability of combining high durability & weather resistance with a pleasantly supple skin feeling. Despite being very hard-wearing, it feels soft & gentle on the skin and is breathable, as well. On top of that, all sandals in our assortment feature outdoor-capable outsoles & offer pronounced arch support through their anatomical footbeds.

Slide Sandals: One-Strap, Two-Strap & Cross-Strap Leather Sandals

Our slide sandals, also simply referred to as slides, are both open-toe & open-heel, thus offering maximum toe freedom & contact to the fresh air. The fully open shape also allows to simply slide in from a standing position, which is where the 'slide' nomenclature comes from. They can be further subdivided into one-strap, two-strap & particularly fashionable criss cross sandals. The straps above the instep can usually be adjusted through either buckle, button or hook-and-loop closures, resulting in a stable yet comfortable fit without bothersome pressure points.

Regarding designs & colors, we have many different options at your disposal: both one-strap & two-strap sandals are available in mat or shiny colors, in monochrome, multi-colored or striped variants or even as boho sandals with highly colorful, indigenous mosaic patterns.

Thong Sandals & Toe Separators: Leather Sandals with Toe Strap

Our leather thong sandals, also called toe separators or simply toe sandals, have an open heel area as well, allowing you to quickly slip them on. At the front, they have a toe strap (sometimes rather a toe ring or toe loop) between the big toe and the others, thus offering slightly more stability than completely open slide sandals.

By virtue of their elegant designs, our toe separators are particularly suited as summery casual shoes. Whether it be for shopping trips into the city, BBQs inside your garden or the festival season, toe sandals can be combined with virtually any outfit, being a true treat for the eyes while also ensuring comfortable walking. We also have thong sandals in particularly graceful colors like gold, silver or bronze. Those can even be combined with more professional business styles, making them perfectly suitable to be worn inside the office without earning puzzled (but rather jealous) looks from your colleagues.

Leather Sandals with Ankle Strap

As opposed to open-heel variants, our closed-heel leather sandals with an ankle strap can't be put on without using the hands at all, but in exchange they offer all the more stability. Thus, they are the perfect choice if your feet generally tend to slip out of the back of your shoes. Our strap sandals are also available in a multitude of shapes & diversified colors, covering both subtle & extravagant tones. The men's leather sandals Haflinger Peter for instance are classic fisher sandals with multiple straps above the instep. Not only does this create a distinctive look by itself, it also results in a firm hold while still offering plenty of freedom & contact to the fresh air.

Leather Sandals with Arch Support

Another distinctive & highly beneficial feature that is inherent to the entirety of our leather sandals are their anatomically shaped cork & latex footbeds. Not only are they the cornerstones of a comfortable walking feeling by providing soft step cushioning, they are also actively contributing to your foot health by supporting muscles & relieving strain from arches, joints & bones.

Their shape is based on that of the human foot, having a heel bed at the back and preshaped arch support in the middle. The latter will further and further adapt to the contours of your feet during the course of wearing, resulting in highly individual support. Therefore, our leather sandals with footbed actively prevent fatigue & keep up heavenly wearing comfort at all times, even after extended periods of prolonged wear.

Directly above the footbed, there is usually a thin cover sole made of soft genuine leather, further increasing the paddening effect. It ensures a pleasant haptic from below your feet, while also absorbing heat & sweat from your soles in order to simply release them into the air after wearing.

Vegetable Tanned Leather Sandals - Sustainable & Skin-Friendly

What exactly is 'vegetable tanned leather'? First of all, it is not to be confused with vegan leather, as it is a regular animal product. The wording 'vegetable' really only refers to the tanning process. In contrast to conventional tanning, where there is usually chrome being used as tanning substance, there are no chemicals used whatsoever with vegetable tanning, but only natural tannins like tree bark for example. The process is way more tedious and thereby expensive than classic chemical tanning, but also more sustainable & enviromentally friendly, many times over in fact. Chrome, for example, is a heavy metal and in consequence thoroughly toxic to both the environment & people involved in the tanning process.

Thanks to the complete absence of harmful chemical substances, vegetable tanned leather is also exceptionally skin-friendly. Even in boiling hot weather, it prevents irritations & burning sensations on sensitive skin.

For a few years already, there's only vegetable tanned, incomparably soft calfskin leather being used for the lining (that is the inner side of the upper which stands in contact with the skin) of all summery Haflinger Slippers & Sandals. All these models thereby offer highest wearing comfort all around: through their supple leather straps on the hand, through the combination of pronounced footbeds & soft cover soles on the other hand.

How to clean Leather Sandals?

Our leather sandals must not be put in neither washing machine nor tumble dryer, as the cork footbed above all can suffer from that. However, as leather is very easy-care (and also dirt-repellent in the first place), it can simply be cleaned by hand with our following care instructions:

Care instructions for smooth leather: sandals made of smooth leather are particularly easy to clean using a fine brush and a moistened cloth.

Care instructions for suede leather: suede leather sandals on the other hand have to be treated a little bit more carefully. With these, you should completely dispense with a wet cleaning and solely use a gentle brush instead. Suede leather should be regularly brushed anyway to prevent it from becoming greasy (meaning the fibers of the surface structure sticking together) with time. There are also special leather brushes explicitly designed for that.

Care instructions for cover soles: The cover sole on the footbed can slowly become darker, as it absorbs sweat, dust & dirt residues over time. To clean it, we would recommend treating it with warm & soapy water first and use a soft brush to gently remove the dirt afterwards.
